what is Astrobiology?

What is astrobiology:
Astrobiology is the study of the originevolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe: extraterrestrial life and life on Earth. This interdisciplinary field encompasses the search for habitable environments in our Solar System and habitable planets outside our Solar System, the search for evidence of prebiotic chemistry, laboratory and field research into the origins and early evolution of life on Earth, and studies of the potential for life to adapt to challenges on Earthand in outer space. Astrobiology addresses the question of whether life exists beyond Earth, and how humans can detect it if it does.

  1. I'd wondered what is astrobiology before, when you say you are interested in Astrobiology in the Udacity forum. Now I understand. :) (that it really has something to do with alien...:P)

  4. Hi Muhammad,

Really sorry! Just saw your reply. Well if it was the last week in February, the course should be end by now! So how it's going?(or rather, how has it gone?)

P.S. I just saw that your bright and cheerful twin sister Khadija had received and posted her certificate with distinction on twitter.

  6. Well done! 95.5%! congratulation!

I'm currently taking a coursera course, about chemistry(apparently, you and your sister are taking the course too.), concept development studies by Rice University; very good course, very detailed. I'd just watch a few newly released videos and although I had already learned things like chemical calculation, atomic structure etc. I found the way they teach very interesting.
what do think, do you find the course challenging?

  7. J.S.T,
we both are taking the same chemistry course, its a nice course and we both are loving it. My sister computer got busted so its getting fixed now.I do find chemistry challenging but for me its very interesting too. still the homework is bit challenging.we are relying on one computer now a days coz my sister computer is busted due to electricity fluctuation, hopefully it will get fixed today and then we can quickly pace up with our courses.

  8. It’s indeed a great course, with it detailed and thorough explanation, It did not gave you an overwhelming feeling of confusion that usually follow when you finish some chemistry class or read some textbook. and, although I find those quizzes challenging too (and that I did not get a good mark), I like those quiz, It "force" you to think; It also provided you the incentive to be more concentrate during lectures.

I utterly understand the frustration of having your computer bust when you are working on it; I personally experienced this, it was not due to the unstable electricity, however. And although my problem was quickly resolved (In my case it was overheated, simply cleaning the ventilation fan worked like miracle), I'm trying my best to prevent it from happening again.
But tell your sister not to worry, as there are several day before the next deadline.

  9. you are right about the quizzes which force you to think hard, thank God the computer is fixed now and we both using different computers now lolz. She is on unit 7 quiz 2 of pre-calculus and I am not unit 7 quiz 1, Astrobio was really interesting and the forums had many heated discussions.:D In chemistry quiz 2 I got less marks too but I am not worried because its okay to make mistakes. Its just normal.

  10. great! computer's back!
yes, making mistakes are normal, it's just another way to learn(and a good one too.)
let's go to course and catch up the pace! And hope all of us could make a better grade this time. :)
